    Discovering Islay 

    Nestled on the rugged coast of Scotland, Islay is surrounded by salty seas and big coastal winds. Lagavulin's distinctive Islay malt is influenced by the surrounding climate, reaffirming that the very best whiskies reflect the place they're made.

    Aged in Melbourne 

    Like the climate of Scotland, the Melbourne climate influences the maturation of our whiskies. Melbourne’s notorious four seasons in a day makes our barrels contract and expand, allowing our whisky to dynamically extract all the delicious flavor of the Lagavulin barrels.

      So well balanced and finished!

      This is every bit as good as the peated cask finish, which was outstanding. The Lagavulin really shows up on the finish, which was very long. Another outstanding Starward!!

      One of the best finishes ever

      I’ve had my fair share of unique finished whisky’s but I think this one takes the cake. Malty, peaty, beautiful, smooth. Buy it if you can get your hands on it!

      A kiss of Lagavulin

      For context, I'm a peat-head, and can appreciate the brutal blast of swampy iodine that often accompanies Islay scotches and anything associated with them. I was fortunate to be selected as a recipient for this Starward single malt finished in ex-Lagavulin barrels, and didn't know quite what to expect. Would the peat influence be subtle or staggering? It ended up being the former, and in a truly lovely way. The core of the whisky remains signature Starward, with its malty sweetness and a slightly tannic note that wine lovers will enjoy, but the Lagavulin presence is still there, whispering gently from the sidelines. Lagavulin is not normally a delicate profile, which makes this all the more delightful.
